The new rules still require permits for most tree removals and mandate independent arborist reviews, but allow removal of trees that pose fire or insurance risks, leaving some environmental advocates and residents dissatisfied.

SPUSD Board President Takes Reins, Eyes Year Highs, Lows (outlooknewspapers.com) — South Pasadena Unified’s board has a new president, longtime resident Michele Kipke, who will lead the district through academic gains, worrying declines for students with disabilities, and serious student mental health concerns.
