South Pas Public Works Director Resigns

Matt Sweeney will step down from his position in public works.

Public Works Director Matt Sweeney announced Tuesday that he will be resigning after two years in the position. His last day is slated for May 6.

"He was previously retired from ... private industry, so he will go back to retirement," said Assistant City Manager Sergio Gonzalez. "We really appreciate the work he has done; he has had many accomplishments in his short tenure. Residents were well-served."

Gonzalez says he and City Manager John Davidson will be meeting soon to discuss the transition and recruitment for a new director. "We don't know how we are going to fill the position yet, but we will meet and discuss options."

"We are fortunate to have a deputy public works director [Shin Furukawa] who was previously the city engineer on staff. By default, the public works director is the city engineer," said Gonzalez.
