GPS Tracker Leads Police To Stolen Motorcycles In South San Francisco

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Two men were arrested in South San Francisco on Saturday after investigators allege they broke into a gated parking garage in San Mateo and stole two motorcycles, including one equipped with a tracking device.

In a news release Tuesday, the San Mateo Police Department said a victim called 911 to report his motorcycles were missing from his apartment complex garage off East Hillsdale Boulevard. He informed officers that one of the motorcycles had a tracker, and police spoke to witnesses and received surveillance video showing a red Toyota Tacoma leaving with the bikes.

According to police, investigators used the tracking data to follow the motorcycles to Veterans Boulevard in South San Francisco. With assistance from officers there, San Mateo investigators took both suspects into custody and returned the stolen motorcycles to the victim.

"This arrest highlights the hard work and dedication our officers have in solving crime and keeping our community safe," the department wrote. "The collaborative effort between South San Francisco PD and our department was important to the successful apprehension of the two suspects and the recovering of the stolen motorcycles."

Police recommend drivers consider placing GPS devices on their vehicles that can be linked to phones to make it easier for officers to track them down if they are stolen.
