Peninsula Man Accused Of Assaulting Ceasefire Demonstrators In SSF

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A South San Francisco man is accused of assaulting and threatening a group of peaceful demonstrators calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, according to police.

In a news release Friday, the department said officers were called to an assembly being held on the corner of El Camino Real and Chestnut Avenue around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

According to police, witnesses reported a man with an opposing viewpoint who approached the group and threatened one participant "based on their perceived ethnicity." Police said the man assaulted some members and caused minor injuries.

Officers located the man, identified as a 57-year-old from San Francisco, and arrested him on suspicion of battery, threats, and hate speech.
