Brush Fire Jams Up 101 Freeway In Studio City

Los Angeles firefighters doused a series of small spot fires along the Hollywood (101) Freeway and State Route 170.

STUDIO CITY, CA โ€” Los Angeles firefighters doused a rush-hour brush fire alongside the Hollywood (101) Freeway in Studio City Thursday afternoon. The blaze continued to jam traffic on both sides of the freeway for miles Thursday afternoon.

The blaze was reported at about 3:20 p.m. at the intersection of Vineland and the Hollywood Freeway, reported Los Angeles fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton.

"Callers report seeing smoke in the grassy area behind fire station 86," she said.

Firefighters arrived to find a slow-moving 50-foot by 50-foot small grass fire burning as well as small spot fires burning near State Route 170, she said.

The California Highway Patrol declared a SigAlert for the southbound side of the 101 Freeway.

Within an hour, crews had the fires extinguished but remained on the scene.

No one was injured in the fire and no structures were threatened.
