Dramatic Standoff Ends After Chase Suspect Crashes On Mulholland Drive

An LAPD SWAT team shattered the windows of an allegedly stolen SUV that crashed during a police chase and yanked the driver out by his arms.

SHERMAN OAKS, CA โ€” A suspect in a reported stolen SUV lead police on a wild chase through the San Fernando Valley before crashing off Mulholland Drive Tuesday. Still, he refused to exit the crashed vehicle, triggering a standoff that ended when LAPD SWAT officers broke the vehicle's windows and pulled him out.

The dramatic chase began when Los Angeles Police Department officers attempted to stop a blue Honda Passport in the Van Nuys about 9:25 p.m. The driver fled, leading police onto the southbound Hollywood (101) Freeway at high speeds to Sherman Oaks. He then exited onto Ventura Boulevard, whizzing along canyon roads.

That's when the suspect lost control of the vehicle, crashing up a dirt embankment on Mulholland Drive. He remained in the wrecked SUV for more than an hour, refusing to exit. Broadcast footage showed dramatic footage of the reluctant suspect being pulled by his arms out of the vehicle.
