Filming In Los Angeles Returns To Pre-Pandemic Levels
The number of shoot days in the second quarter of 2021 was higher than the same period in 2019, before the pandemic.
STUDIO CITY, CA โ Filming in Los Angeles has officially returned to pre-pandemic levels, signaling Hollywood's return to force after a year and a half of stagnated activity.
According to FilmLA, which handles film permits in Los Angeles, 9,791 shoot days were logged across all categories in the second quarter of 2021. That number was only 9,135 in the second quarter of 2019, a 7.2 percent increase from pre-pandemic years during the same time frame.
"By almost any available measure, the second quarter was good for filming in Los Angeles," said Paul Audley, President of FilmLA. "With local COVID-19 cases rising itโs not clear whether that will be sustainable, but the industryโs commitment to community, cast and crew safety remains firmly in place."
