Trunk Line Update for Studio City and Valley Village

The repairs on the pipes causing road delays and traffic back-up throughout Studio City and Valley Village will be expected to continue through next year.

Paul Krekorian’s staff representative reported to residents that one phase of the construction is near completion, but that another will soon begin.

In July, the construction at Magnolia Boulevard will be completed, but more construction will hit Whitsett Avenue at Magnolia Boulevard in Valley Village near the 101 Freeway. That work, traveling south on Whitsett should be completed about a year from now.

“They are replacing pipes that are about 100 years old, it is aging infrastructure and needs to be improved,” said Yazzetta. Each pipe is about 60-inches wide and 30 to 40 feet in length. 

The Trunk Line-5 will consist of the installation of approximately 6,950 feet of (1.3 miles) of 60-inch and 54-inch diameter potable water pipelines, 6 butterfly valves, and one jack. The project route is along Coldwater Canyon Avenue from 265 feet north of Avenida Del Sol Drive to Moorpark Street, and along Moorpark Street from Coldwater Canyon Avenue to 60 feet east of Babcock Avenue.

Construction started on June 1, 2011 on Coldwater Canyon Avenue between Van Noord Avenue and Dickens Street. Tentative construction completion date is September 2015. Construction of the pipeline will be broken into 12 work zones and each zone will be approximately 800 feet long. Some work zones may be combined to accelerate the construction. There will be one traffic lane in each direction adjacent to the work zones. Parking will be restricted in some traffic transition areas.

The $15 million project will take through September 2015 to complete.
