Twins on the Mend 2 Weeks After Accident

Teachers and students have visited the twin girls who were hit crossing Moorpark.

Two weeks after 11-year-old twins were hit by a car near the corner of Moorpark Street and Colfax Avenue, one girl is back at school and the other is on the mend.

Friends of the family confirmed that the one twin who was in serious condition is able to talk again and is regaining some memory of the accident. The other is already back at school after getting stitches on a 10-inch cut across her head.

Friends and teachers have visited the girls at home, and out of deference to the family, Patch has agreed to give the family their privacy and not publish the girls' names.

Gifts, cards and well-wishes were passed along to the family through the Walter Reed Middle School administrators, who accompanied the girls in the ambulance two weeks ago when they were struck by a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by an 82-year-old woman. No one was charged in the accident.

The girl in serious condition had her jaw and collarbone broken, and she has been treated in the intensive care unit.

Both girls required stitches and received bruises and black eyes.

A source close to the family confirmed that over the weekend the girl in serious condition was "speaking normally now." She only knows that she hurt her head, but has no memory of the accident.
