Valley View Newsletter: Meet the New Janitor, Art Mural Volunteers Needed & More
News from that little school in the Cahuenga Pass.
We're excited to report that the mural work is underway!
On Wednesday and Friday, the children will be painting the new panels of our Valley View mural! Please have your kids wear something you feel is okay to get a few drops of paint on, just in case.
If you would like to help with preparation of the wall for the mural, there are just a few spaces left open for parent volunteers. Please emailjessicahoeschen@yahoo.com. On Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:30-9 (in the dark - so no kids), parents will be tracing the art onto the wall using overhead projection, no need for artistic skills. We highly recommend not bringing your children, but if you need to, your elementary school age children will be supervised in room 2 (no babies/toddlers).

The DONATE button on the website is working great, and the link on this newsletter has been updated. We still prefer checks, of course, to use more of the money you donate, but hopefully if it's more convenient, we'll get MORE DONATIONS!
The kids continue enjoy rehearsing on Mondays and Wednesdays after school for the Talent Show coming up Friday 6/8, and we will have times available in the next newsletter.

There are only a few yearbooks left, so hurry while supplies last! Yearbooks will be sold each day after school or you can drop by the office to fill out an order form.
The Lost & Found pile is growing bigger by the day! Please take a few minutes to look through these items.
With the announcement of devastating budget cuts last month, members of the PTA have kicked into high-gear to raise the much needed funds to pay for our librarian and teaching assistants, as well as to continue paying for field trips & assemblies, and general campus support.
We have raised over $3000 to date, but we still need your help! Please support our school and our children's education by giving through our Fund Drive, this is the simplest and most effective way to raise money for our school. You may give with cash, check or online atwww.valleyviewelementary.org.
Kids can also get involved with fundraising for their school with the Victory Lap and Walk of Fame. A letter went home in backpacks last week explaining this fun, sponsor-driven fundraiser. You may also download your copies of the sponsor log forms and a sample email for out-of-state family members. This is a great opportunity to ask grandparents, aunts/uncles, friends, and neighbors to help our school. Every child who raises at least $100 gets to attend the celebratory sno-cone party.
Finally, a big thank you to everyone who attended the fundraising meeting last Wednesday morning. Some fantastic ideas were brought up and I think we will head into the new school year with excellent focus and strategy.
The battle to save our school resources is far from over, but we have a tremendous momentum to get started. Join us in our efforts to support our school. FIVE QUESTIONS Family ManMILTON GIRON
Milton has been a Building & Grounds worker at Valley View for over a year and a half. Born in El Salvador, he is the father of a nine year old, and a one and a half year old. He likes to read, and go to the park with his kids.
Q1: What do you do with your free time?MG: Well, now I baby-sit. Sometimes I go play soccer. I've been playing soccer most of my life. When I have time, I like to go kick the ball. Q2: What was your favorite childhood food?MG: Hamburgers. Even when I was back in El Salvador, hamburgers were the food I really liked a lot.Q3: What is your greatest fear?MG: I guess that would be something bad happening to my kids, my family.Q4: What person, living or dead, do you consider for hero?MG: My father. He used to be a teacher. He passed away. I had a close relationship with him, and he was always there for me. Anytime I had a problem, I would come to him and he would help me out. You know, as a teenager, you do crazy stuff, and sometimes as a parent you get all upset, but my father was really calm, and had a way to work things out.
Q5: What is your most treasured possession?MG: I only have two pictures of my dad. I called my mom, and she doesn't have any pictures. My brothers, my sisters, no one had any pictures of my dad. I had two, and took them to a place that enlarged them, and made copies to give to my mom, and my brothers and sisters.
