Weekend Planner: Underwood Family Farms, Paramount Ranch and More

Ideas from Providence Health & Services Foundation.

Spring has officially sprung here in the San Fernando Valley. We have had a few good showers and although we are off by a month, April showers brings May flowers! It is the start of the perfect season to get outdoors so we thought we  could help out and name some nifty things to do with family and fiends that will reap the goods of the season.

  • - We love the farmer's market and try to make it a point to go every weekend. We get great fresh produce and eggs and it's a nice opportunity to be out side. There is lots to look at and it is also a great way to stay in the know with your local community!
  • Underwood Family Farms - Taking the farmer's market to the next level. Underwood Family Farms has two locations, one in Somis and the other in Moorpark, that allow you to come and pick-your-own! My friends and I love to do this. We check out their crop calendar and plan a meal around the great things we can pick. Plus there is nothing like having sun-drenched strawberries right from the field. We get out and exercise while getting great food. Win win.
  • Hiking - Hikes are great ways to get out, especially right now when it's not to hot and it's not peak snake season! There are tons a great places to go hiking in the valley, but here are our top choices for family friendly adventures.
    • Paramount Ranch - Paramount Ranch is great because there is an old western town set at the trail head. It's great to get kids interested and it's so fun to remember all the great movies that were made there.
    •  - This place is great because it's a park and trails. The park has great equipment and facilities and the trails are friendly and easy. They even hook up with Malibu State Creek Park and you can hike by some nice water elements.
  • Stay Home - It is time for spring cleaning, but inside isn't the only place that needs some attention. Go outside and show your garden some love. Do a planting project with your kids and grow some goodies for your family.

Hope we helped to get some creative ideas flowing to help you plan your next outdoor activity. Don't forget your sunscreen! Get out and get healthy together!
