Sports have a way of teaching invaluable life lessons — building character, fostering teamwork and strengthening the bonds within a community. In the Suisun City area, these values have shaped some truly remarkable athletes from different eras, whose accomplishments continue to inspire.

Patch has teamed up with T-Mobile to spotlight five standout athletes whose achievements have left a lasting mark on our community. While this list is just a snapshot, there are countless others who have helped shape the rich sports culture in our area.

1. Alicia Hollowell (Softball)

Suisun native Alicia Hollowell stands as one of the most accomplished pitchers in softball history. At Arizona, she led the Wildcats to a national title in 2006, pitching every inning of the Women’s College World Series and earning Most Outstanding Player honors. A two-time First-Team All-American and four-time All-Pac-10 honoree, Hollowell set records with 64 strikeouts in a single WCWS and twice finished as a finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. Internationally, she secured gold medals at the 2006 ISF World Championship and 2007 Pan American Games and was an alternate for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team.

2. Taylor and Tyler Rogers (Baseball)

Identical twins Taylor and Tyler Rogers have made history as Major League Baseball teammates for the San Francisco Giants. Known for their near-identical pitching stats, the veteran relievers have helped bolster the Giants' bullpen and inspire their community. Their contributions extend beyond the diamond — this year, a new Little League field at Samuel W. Goepp Park in Suisun was named in their honor. The field features dirt and bases from Oracle Park, symbolizing their journey from local diamonds to the big leagues.

3. Keshia Baker (Track)

Solano County’s own Keshia Baker made her mark as an Olympic gold medalist in the 4x400m relay at the 2012 London Games. A graduate of the University of Oregon, Baker was a six-time school record holder and NCAA champion in the 4x400m relay. Beyond her athletic achievements, she founded a nonprofit organization, Save Our Student-Athletes, supporting after-school programs for underserved youth. Baker’s journey from a standout collegiate sprinter to an Olympic champion reflects her dedication to excellence both on and off the track.

4. Jason Verrett (Football)

Jason Verrett, a standout cornerback from Solano County, has overcome numerous challenges to excel in the NFL. After starring at Angelo Rodriguez High School in Fairfield, he earned All-American honors at TCU before being drafted in the first round by the San Diego Chargers in 2014. Despite injuries, Verrett has showcased his resilience with Pro Bowl selections and key contributions to multiple teams, including the San Francisco 49ers. His accomplishments landed him in the Rodriguez High School Hall of Fame in 2024.

5. Luis Grijalva (Track)

Another Solano County native, Fairfield’s Luis Grijalva, has ascended to the world stage as a long-distance runner representing Guatemala. A state champion at Armijo High School, Grijalva became an NCAA All-American at Northern Arizona University before turning professional with Hoka One One. He has achieved remarkable success, including a 12th-place finish in the 5000m at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and two fourth-place finishes at the World Athletics Championships.
