FAIRFIELD - A fire Sunday evening in Fairfield caused about $100,000 in damage to a two-story home, a battalion chief said.

Firefighters were dispatched at 5:46 p.m. to the 1400 block of Northwood Court.

The first firefighters to arrive at the house saw smoke and flames coming from the attic, Battalion Chief Matt Luckenbach said.

The fire started in the upper part of the home’s chimney and spread laterally a few feet on either side of the chimney, he said.

Luckenbach called for a second alarm because the home was so far from the nearest fire station.

However, the extra personnel were not needed, he said.

Neither civilians nor firefighters were injured in the blaze and firefighters “were able to save most of the home,” Luckenbach said.
