Brush Fire Breaks Out South Of Highway 371 In Aguanga

AGUANGA, CA — A brush fire erupted Friday on the south end of Aguanga, burning roughly seven acres before Cal Fire aircraft initiated runs that slowed the brusher's advance.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 2:50 p.m. Friday in the area of Gold Creek Lane and Amaretto Road, south of Highway 371 and west of the Beauty Mountain Wilderness preserve, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency stated that multiple engine and hand crews were sent to the location, encountering flames moving at a moderate rate to the southeast.

Four Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter began drops on the brusher shortly after 3 p.m., slowing its momentum, according to officials at the scene.

No homes or other structures were immediately threatened.

The remote area has been the location of numerous wildfires over the years, including several large-scale blazes last summer.

There was no immediate word on what may have triggered Friday's fire.
