CHP Begins Motorcycle Safety Patrols Along This Riverside County Freeway

TEMECULA, CA — Starting this week through the end of September, the California Highway Patrol will be watching drivers and motorcycle riders along I-15 to ensure all are following safe practices, according to a recent news release.

Starting Wednesday, in an effort to reduce the number of motorcycle crashes, the California Highway Patrol Temecula Area will deploy additional officers along I-15, Officer Mike Lassig reported.

Officers will look for violations by both motorcycle riders and drivers that make roads dangerous for other traffic, including unsafe speed, following too closely, unsafe lane changes, and improper turning, the CHP announced in a recent news release.

Motorcycle-involved crashes in California continue to be a significant concern for the CHP.

"From January 2024 through December 2024, provisional statistical data revealed there were 145 injury crashes involving motorcycles and seven fatal crashes involving motorcycles in the CHP, Temecula Area jurisdiction," the announcement said.

Funding for these operations is provided by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Titled “Get Educated and Ride Safe (GEARS) VII, the grant funding assists the CHP in reducing deadly and serious injury crashes involving motorcycles.

Additional enforcement efforts along I-15 from fr om the San Diego County line to Central Avenue in Lake Elsinore, both northbound and southbound, according to Officer Lassig.

Expect to see CHP officers patrolling from Wednesday, Aug. 27, through September 30, 2025.
