DUI Checkpoint Planned In Temecula

TEMECULA, CA — A DUI checkpoint is planned in Temecula this month, and motorists caught driving impaired and subsequently convicted will face about $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, authorities announced Monday.

The checkpoint is scheduled from 7 p.m. May 24 to 1 a.m. May 25 at an undisclosed location within city limits, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

During the operation, deputies will be looking for drivers under the influence of any substances that can impair driving, including alcohol, narcotics, some prescription and over-the-counter drugs, and cannabis.

"Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk," Cpl. Downs said. "Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety."

According to the sheriff's department, a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provided funding for the program.
