Fire Breaks Out East Of Temecula

Reports from the scene indicate a group of good Samaritans tried to douse the flames before fire crews arrived.

AGUANGA, CA — A brush fire that erupted Tuesday in Aguanga burned just over an acre and disrupted traffic near the Cahuilla Indian Reservation before crews got it under control. The non-injury blaze was reported about 1:25 p.m. in the area of state Route 371 and Sorensen Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The California Highway Patrol was the first to report the blaze, after passing motorists spotted it. Multiple people tried to help douse the flames of "a very long length of brush fire" near the roadway before fire crews got to the scene, according to preliminary reports.

Multiple engine crews encountered the good Samaritans attempting to contain the brusher, which was paralleling Sorensen, according to reports from the scene.

Travel along the roadway was stopped at one point, according to the CHP.

The reservation is less than a mile to the east.

Firefighters completely contained the fire by 2:15 p.m. The cause was under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
