TEMECULA, CA — A 33-year-old French Valley man remained behind bars Wednesday afternoon, charged with more than a dozen felony counts linked to commercial burglaries across Temecula and nearby unincorporated areas, according to the sheriff's department and court records.

Joseph Roybal, who was slated for arraignment Wednesday afternoon, is charged with 14 counts of burglary and one count of misdemeanor possession of burglary tools. He is being held at Southwest Detention Center in lieu of $100,000 bail.

In June, deputies from the Southwest Sheriff's Station began investigating multiple commercial burglaries that were occurring throughout Temecula city limits and in nearby unincorporated areas. The incidents involved the same method and suspect description, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

"After an extensive investigation," the deputies identified even more related burglaries, which led them to Roybal and his 2021 silver Honda Clarity, the law enforcement agency reported.

On July 19, deputies corraled Roybal in the area of Willows Avenue and San Anselmo Drive, just outside of Murrieta city limits. He was taken into custody after attempting to flee, the sheriff's department said.

"When he was arrested, Roybal was in possession of stolen property," according to the department.

A search warrant was served at Roybal's residence in French Valley's 30800 block of Wisteria Loop and on the Honda Clarity.

"Several items of evidentiary value and stolen property were located, connecting Roybal to the string of burglaries," the sheriff's department stated.

Investigators are working to identify several more burglaries in which Roybal is believed to be involved. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Investigator Mills at the Southwest Sheriff's Station: 951-696-3000.
