Man Struck, Killed By SUV On Highway In SW Riverside County

During the preliminary investigation, officers said they believe the man stepped into the second lane just before he was struck.

TEMECULA, CA — A man was fatally struck and killed after he walked onto a highway near Southwest Riverside County late on Wednesday night, authorities said.

At about 11:50 p.m., a 23-year-old woman from Fontana was driving 2021 Lexus RX250 SUV eastbound on State Route 74 in the second lane, just east of Betty Road in unincorporated Good Hope, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Lassig.

An adult man was reportedly walking along the south paved shoulder, just ahead of the Lexus, when, for unknown reasons, the man stepped into the number two lane as the Lexus drove toward him, Lassig said.

After the man was struck by the right front of the SUV, CHP and Cal Fire responded to the scene. He was taken to Riverside University Health System Medical Center, where Lassig said he was pronounced dead.

The man's identity has not yet been released and no other information was immediately available.
