Protect Your Pooch; Dogs Can Be Sunburned Too

Residents should be aware that their dogs -- like their masters -- could be sunburned, according to the American Kennel Club.

Particularly at risk are a dog's nose, ends of the ears, around the mouth, eyelids and the underside – belly, groin and inside the legs, the AKC reports.

Common sense tells us to keep dogs in the shade or in cool rooms during the hottest part of the day but also, the vulnerable and unprotected parts of dogs should get sunscreen, the AKC said.

Also available are bodysuits, to protect dogs that are mostly outside.
During the summer months, leaving a little more hair on a dog, though it could make the animal warmer, will protect the pooch against the sun.
