Street-Racing Crackdown In Temecula Nets 46 Tickets, 2 Arrests

The eight-hour law enforcement effort took place Sunday and was focused on street racing, sideshows and reckless driving across the city.

TEMECULA, CA — Efforts to curb street racing, sideshows and other dangerous driving behaviors were targeted Sunday in Temecula.

A street-racing task force made up of California Highway Patrol officers and Temecula Police Department deputies focused on Temecula’s stretch of Interstate 15 and the city's surface streets.

During the eight-hour operation, the task force wrote 46 traffic citations, arrested two people, issued 14 verbal warnings, and referred nine vehicles to the California Bureau of Automotive Repair due to illegal automotive modifications, according to CHP Officer Mike Lassig.

Arrestees names were not released.

"The CHP would like to remind the motoring public that street racing, sideshows, and reckless driving are not only dangerous but illegal," Lassig said, adding that street-racing spectators can be cited as well.

Lassig advised that anyone interested in modifying or adjusting their vehicles should first reference the California Vehicle Code.
