SWR Woman Killed In I-15 Wreck In Rainbow
CHP officials say the woman's vehicle careened down an embankment, struck a tree and rolled before coming to rest.
MENIFEE, CA — A Menifee woman was killed Saturday afternoon in a single-car crash off Interstate 15 in Rainbow, an official said.
The 73-year-old woman from the Sun City area of Menifee was driving a Chevrolet Aveo north on I-15 when, for reasons that officials are investigating, she veered off the right shoulder of the freeway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Latulippe.
Her vehicle careened down an embankment, struck a tree and rolled before coming to rest in the shoulder of Old Highway 395 near Rainbow Glen Road, Latulippe said. The area is a little more than a mile south of the Rainbow Valley Boulevard exit.

The woman was the only person in the car. She died at the scene of the crash, Latulippe said. Authorities don't believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
Witnesses told CHP dispatchers the driver may have been using the shoulder to pass a slower vehicle when the crash happened around 3:45 p.m.
