Investigations revealed the 4Runner was northbound on southbound SR-79 and made an overcorrection to the right at an undetermined speed, according to the CHP. The maneuver caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and drove off onto the dirt shoulder area before crashing into a telephone pole and overturning, coming to a rest on its roof.
The CHP along with Cal Fire responded to the crash and found the right front passenger suffered minor injuries while the allegedly unrestrained passenger required extrication and suffered major injuries. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
