TEMECULA, CA — The Temecula Area office of the California Highway Patrol is asking for the public's help solving a deadly hit-and-run that happened earlier this month on State Route 74, just east of Agnew Avenue, in the Homeland area.

On the night of Aug. 8, at around 8:20 p.m., an 85-year-old man was walking across SR-74 when he was hit by a vehicle described as a white utility truck, according to CHP Officer Mike Lassig.

"The white utility truck’s front end collided with the pedestrian," Lassig said. "The suspect driver failed to stop and fled the scene to an unknown location."

The man died at the scene within just minutes, according to a coroner's report. He was a resident of Romoland.

Since the deadly incident occurred, the CHP has been working to find whomever hit the man. They recently pulled an image that they believe shows the suspect vehicle, taken from a surveillance camera near the crash site, according to Lassig.
