Before the deputies arrived, the caller told sheriff's dispatch the suspect had been breaking the windows of a vehicle and setting it on fire. When the deputies arrived, they found the suspect sitting inside the burning vehicle and acting erratically, Brito-Gonzalez said.

Deputies told the suspect to exit the vehicle, but he refused to comply and continued to behave erratically and aggressively toward deputies. The suspect then produced a metal object and threw it at the deputies, who responded by shooting the suspect, according to Brito-Gonzalez.
