TEMECULA, CA — Temecula is invited to Storm Stadium for Temecula Takeover night, the last Saturday in June. Prepare for some minor-league baseball fun, antics, and a purely Southwest Riverside County fun as the mayor takes the mound, throws out the first pitch, and shares Temecula-themed City Spirit jerseys for the Storm players, the city announced.

The event, slated for 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, will feature a showdown against the Modesto Nuts.

Mayor Brenden Kalfus will showcase his baseball skills by throwing out the first pitch of the game, according to a recent news release. This is the second time in recent weeks that Kalfus has done so, the last at the crosstown rivalry game at Temecula Valley High School, as the Golden Bears played the Wolfpack of Great Oak High School.

Kalfus was a varsity baseball player at Temecula Valley High School and played college ball at Saint Mary's College. He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays, where he spent a few seasons in the minors in Vancouver, he told Patch.

"I played two years in Vancouver, a big league city with a minor league team," he recalled, but for Kalfus, Temecula "has been and always will be home."

Summer at Storm Stadium is a favorite pastime for many southwest Riverside County residents. The stadium holds 5,000 fans and is among the more favored minor-league ballparks, according to the release.

During the game, players will wear custom Temecula-themed jerseys, and local businesses will be promoted at the park. Prizes will be awarded to fans during inning breaks, in a day that promises to be fun for all ages.

"As a lifelong baseball fan, I'm beyond excited to throw out the first pitch and celebrate Temecula Takeover Night with all of you," Kalfus said. "Growing up in Temecula, I spent countless hours on the baseball field, and it's an honor to see our city come together and support the Lake Elsinore Storm! Let's fill the diamond and show our city spirit!"

Come out and support the Storm as they take on the Modesto Nuts. Tickets are available for purchase at GoFevo.com/CityofTemecula, for $15 each.

"Bring your family, friends, and love for baseball to this fun-filled night at the ballpark. Let’s make some noise and show our support for the Lake Elsinore Storm and the City of Temecula!"
