Temecula Valley Elks Host Middle School 'Student of the Year' Presentations

The 18th, annual event took place with 48 students recognized from eight schools in the Temecula area.

The Temecula Valley Elks held their 18th annual middle school “Student of the Year”presentations at Van Avery Prep School. Forty-eight students were recognized from eight schools in the Temecula areas. Each middle school was asked to submit applications for three females and three males. Each application included a 300-word essay, describing why he or she should be selected as the “Student of the Year” from his or her school. A committee of Elks judged the applications according to their academic achievement, citizenship, involvement in school activities and leadership activities. Speakers during the evening were Ken Hauer, president of the Temecula Valley Elks; Jimmie Spezia, California-Hawaii Elks trustee and district leader and Traci Wright, marketing director for Chick-fil-A and past Middle School Awards recipient. The top female and top male from each school received a gift card for Barnes & Noble in the amount of $50. All the candidates received a framed certificate of achievement from the Temecula Valley Elks, an engraved Olympic-style medallion medal and a coupon from Chick-fil-A.

The winners and runners-up from each school are: Pola An Marcial (runner-up), Maxeene Quiambao (runner-up), Sarah Kurt (top female), Giovanni Novelo (runner-up), Alexander Rosen (runner-up) and Jadyn Johnson (top male) of Bella Vista Middle School; Emily Nightingale (runner-up), Lenaya-Aiden Gonzales (runner-up), Sophia Bove (top female), Holden Kennedy (runner-up), Abdulkarim Eleter (runner-up) and Raymond Lee (top male) from Erle Stanley Gardner Middle School; Katherine Phung (runner-up), Charlene Miciano (runner-up), Avika Patel (top female), Nilson Rodriguez (runner-up), Alexandr Nechay (runner-up) and Trevor Park (top male) of James L. Day Middle School; Reanna Lebitski (runner-up), Hailey Hinkel (runner-up), Tori Draughon (top female), Jonathan Kim (runner-up), Jacob Schmidt (runner-up) and Seth McLaughlin (top male) of Margarita Middle School; Marisa Mistica (runner-up), Elizabeth Berkshire (runner-up), Emily Africa (top female), Ian Cabebe (runner-up), Marcos Britsch (runner-up) and Patrick Bogan (top male) of St. Jeanne de Lestonnac School; Isabella Cogliati (runner-up), Taryn Ustoy (runner-up), Madelyn Houser (top female), Alec Williams (runner-up), Benjamin Davis (runner-up) and Colby Burns (top male) of Temecula Middle School; Bree Anna Adner (runner-up), Madeline Young (runner-up), Kathryn Chankheo (top female), Karthik Dharmarajan (runner-up), Marcus Bagingito (runner-up) and Jake Johnson (top male) of Temecula Preparatory School; Malika Neogi (runner-up), Alexa Allen (runner-up), Augustina Peña (top female), Evan deChambeau (runner-up), Collin Dang (runner-up) and Scott Herrera (top male) of Van Avery Prep.
