Temecula Valley USD To Pay $1,559,000 Over Next 2 Years For School Resource Officers

TEMECULA, CA — A two-year $1,559,000 agreement for school resource officers in the Temecula Valley Unified School District is expected to be ratified and approved Tuesday by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.

The agreement, which the TVUSD approved, runs through June 30, 2027, and includes three and a half full-time sworn deputy SROs provided by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The SROs will be assigned to campuses across the district. SRO duties will include class presentations on relevant law enforcement issues, patrolling school campuses, investigating crimes, maintaining order on campuses, counseling students and their parents, and serving as liaisons at school sites, according to the agreement.

The SROs will also serve as liaisons between district employees, school attendance review boards, the Probation Department, and other law enforcement officials.

The TVUSD has long contracted with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department for SROs.

"The Sheriff’s Office and District share common goals that include the provision of programs that address the needs of students at risk," according to the agreement. "The SROs serve as a visual deterrent to aberrant behavior and thereby enhance campus control and student protection."
