Trio Of Earthquakes Rattles Idyllwild, Riverside County Mountains Thanksgiving Weekend

The U.S. Geological Survey reported a swarm of earthquakes centered in the San Jacinto Mountains on Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

IDYLLWILD, CA— A series of small quakes struck the mountains of Riverside County on Thanksgiving Day and early Friday morning, officials say. The largest, a magnitude 3.8 earthquake, struck on Friday morning with an epicenter near Idyllwild, in Riverside County, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The largest temblor in the flurry was reported just after 5:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
Two additional quakes also struck the area.

Thursday, a 3.0-magnitude quake struck shortly before the first on Thanksgiving, and a 3.8-magnitude temblor rattled Idyllwild in the middle of Thanksgiving dinner for many, according to social media reports.

A third quake, measuring 3.5 magnitude, struck around 4:30 a.m. Friday.

The quake rattled residents in Temecula, Murrieta, Hemet, Banning, Beaumont, as well as Riverside and Palm Desert, according to initial reports. USGS has asked all who felt it to chime in on its Did You Feel It report.

No injuries were reported as a result of today's quake.
