Winchester Husband And Wife Killed In I-10 Crash Identified: CHP
Family and friends are mourning the sudden loss of the Riverside County couple.
WINCHESTER, CA — A Winchester husband and wife, prominent in the Temecula Valley Hot Air Ballooning community, died Thursday morning in a single vehicle crash on I-10 in Mecca, according to the California Highway Patrol.
David Lynch, 68, and his wife, Kimberly Lynch, 65, were publicly identified as the victims of the crash by the Riverside County Coroner's Bureau on Monday.
The couple was well known in the Temecula Valley Hot Air Ballooning community, and their family has asked for privacy during this time of grieving, a spokesperson told Patch.

Shortly before 10 a.m., the CHP responded to the single-truck collision just west of the Cactus City Rest Area within Riverside County, CHP officer Daniel Torres told Patch.
The 2002 Ford F-250 was traversing Interstate 10 in the Mecca area when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle turned sharply to the right, left the roadway, entered the dirt terrain south of the freeway, and overturned, according to Torres.

"The Ford came to rest on its roof, facing in a westerly direction," he said. "Both occupants inside the Ford succumbed to their injuries at the scene." Two freeway lanes were closed for over six hours following the crash.
All lanes of traffic were reopened about six hours after the crash. Anyone with information regarding the collision is encouraged to call Officer R. Garcia, at (760) 772-5300.
