The city will cover most repair costs up to set limits, with extra help for income-qualified residents, while also revising rules on liability for sidewalk defects and making several key board and commission appointments.
   

• Substitute teacher sues council candidate for defamation (turlockjournal.com) — A Turlock substitute teacher is suing a local private investigator and would-be City Council candidate for defamation over public and online comments about a classroom incident at Turlock Junior High. Police say video showed no crime, while the lawsuit and public statements are now testing relations among the teacher, Turlock PD, and the Turlock Unified School District.
   

• Cities with the fastest-growing home prices in the Modesto metro area (santafenewmexican.com) — Home values in Turlock are down slightly over the past year, but still up more than $100,000 compared with five years ago, with a typical price near $475,000.
