2 Suspects In Deputy Shooting Found Dead: Police

The injured Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy is recovering from surgery, according to the sheriff's office.

UNION CITY, CA — Two suspects in the shooting of an Alameda County Sheriff’s Deputy were found dead in Union City, the Union City Police Department reported in a statement.

The deputy, meanwhile, underwent surgery on his arm at a local hospital. "We are happy to report that he is in recovery and in good spirits," the sheriff's office said in a statement. The deputy's name has not been released.

He was shot Wednesday afternoon in the 33000 block of Dowe Avenue as deputies attempted to serve an eviction at a building in an industrial complex that had partially been converted into living quarters.

The deputies did not fire their guns.

Following the shooting, law enforcement officers from multiple agencies swarmed the site, with a standoff ensuing that lasted several hours.

Police obtained search warrants for the location, and UCPD SWAT operators went inside where they found the pair, a man and a woman, dead. "It is believed that these two individuals are responsible for the shooting of the ACSO deputy. The two deceased individuals appeared to have sustained self-inflicted gun-shot wounds and no other suspects or victims were located inside," UCPD said in the statement.

The identities of the two suspects are being withheld until their families are notified.

Police emphasize that there is no remaining threat to the public.
