5 Cited At Union City DUI Checkpoint

Police screened nearly 350 vehicles during the overnight checkpoint, citing five drivers for issues with their license.

UNION CITY, CA — The Union City Police Department joined neighboring agencies around the Bay Area in deploying a DUI checkpoint over the weekend, screening more than 341 drivers on Union City Boulevard on Saturday.

The location was selected based on previous crashes linked to impaired driving, aiming to take more inebriated drivers off the road. Out of the vehicles screened, police on Tuesday said five drivers were cited for driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Funding for DUI checkpoints comes from grants awarded annually by the state Office of Traffic Safety. Union City officials said the next checkpoint would take place sometime next year.
