Community Celebration Honoring Late Supervisor Scheduled
The celebration in memory of District 2 Board Supervisor Richard Valle will be held at Union City's Veterans Memorial Park.

UNION CITY, CA — Alameda County will host a community celebration in memory of longtime Union City resident, former Councilmember, and District 2 Board Supervisor Richard Valle Saturday, Feb. 25 at Union City's Veterans Memorial Park.
Scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the event will feature include a military funeral service that will include a presentation of colors and a 21-gun salute, Union City announced in a news release.
Valle died Wednesday, Feb. 8, following a nearly two year long battle with prostate cancer. He was 73.

Valle grew up in Union City and attended New Haven Unified School District schools. He served on the City Council for 13 years from 1997 to 2010, then was elected to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors representing District 2 since 2012. His years of public service focused on youth development, community enrichment, and improved social services, Alameda County said in a news release announcing his death.
Outside of his political career, Valle was a founding member of Centro de Servicios, the oldest Hispanic social service agency in southern Alameda County, and the founder and president of Tri-CED Community Recycling, California’s largest nonprofit recycling company, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

"Richard’s contributions to the Union City community, the recycling industry statewide, and the countless jobs he created and nurtured over his illustrious seven decades cannot be overstated.," the news release said.
Union City has issued a noise advisory for the duration of the community celebration and said that some streets in the area of Veterans Park will likely have limited vehicle and pedestrian access.
"There will be designated parking zones for the event; however, surrounding neighborhoods may be impacted due to the volume of attendees expected for this event," the city said. "We ask that you proceed with caution and allow for additional travel time to and from your destination."
Streets expected to be impacted and the effects expected are:
- Expect increased volume of vehicles traveling and parking on Deborah Dr., Gascoscos St., Regents Blvd., Lisa Dr., and Dyer St.
- 20 MPH event zone will be established on Dyer with 1 lane of travel in each direction between Deborah Dr. and Cabello St. -- expect delays.
- Children and elderly will be present -- exercise caution at uncontrolled intersections & crossings.
- Additional red zones & no parking zones will be established to increase safety and sight distance for all.
"Union City is working closely with Alameda County to minimize the impacts of the event," the Union City News release said. "We appreciate your support and patience."
