Alvarado Middle School Students Launch ‘Eat Better’ Campaign

The program empowers youth to adopt healthy eating habits.

A group of students at Alvarado Middle School is leading the charge to help their peers make healthier eating choices.

According to the New Haven Unified School District, the Helping Hands Community Service Club at AMS recently launched an “Eat Better” campaign. The program aims to inspire students and their families to adopt healthy eating habits.

The club is using a Facebook page, www.facebook.com/EatBetterCampaign, to host creative contests, videos, tips and other tools to encourage youth to “eat better” and fight obesity.

On Monday, the club announced a healthy food photo contest.

According to the Facebook page, the student who submits the most creative photo of any healthy food can win an Electronic Arts videogame for any video game platform of the winner’s choosing. The contest closes this Sunday. See the full details here.

One of the recent healthy tips the middle schoolers provided was: move it! “When you talk on the phone, lift weights or walk around,” the group wrote on their Facebook page.
