Boy Riding Scooter Hospitalized in Weekend Accident
The Saturday evening accident was one of several accidents that occurred over the weekend.

A 7-year-old boy was airlifted to a hospital Saturday after being struck by a car while riding his scooter near Dyer Street and San Pablo Way, police said.
The boy suffered non-life threatening injuries and is recovering, Cmdr. Ben Horner of the Union City Police Department said Monday. According to the Alameda County Fire Department, the accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m.
Police said the boy rode a Razor scooter off of his driveway on the 3200 block of San Pablo Way and into the path of an oncoming vehicle traveling westbound on San Pablo. The driver had no time to stop, police said.

A full-size SUV parked in the driveway may have obstructed the child’s view of the oncoming vehicle, police said.
The boy hit his head on the roadway but did not sustain life-threatening injuries, Horner said. Because of the boy’s age, he was airlifted by a helicopter to the Oakland Children’s Hospital as a precaution.

The intersection of Dyer Street and San Pablo Way remained closed so that the helicopter could land and take off safely.
The incident was just one of several similar accidents to occur over the weekend.
Also on Saturday, a bicyclist suffered a minor injury after riding into an SUV on Dyer Street just north of Alvarado Boulevard. According to Horner, the SUV slowed for traffic and the bicyclist plowed into the back of the vehicle. The bicyclist was transported to the hospital with an arm injury, Horner said.
Early Sunday morning, a pedestrian was in the intersection of Alvarado-Niles Road and Union Square Drive.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help in finding the driver responsible for the death.
