Chief of Police Top Paid Employee In Union City For 2021

Union City's chief of police was the highest paid employee for the city with city manager coming in second.

UNION CITY, CA — Jared Rinetti, Union City's chief of police was the highest paid government employee in the city in 2021, according to numbers released by the California State Controller's Office.

Coming in at $321,874, with base pay and benefits, Rinetti, who was named to the position in 2018, out-earned the city manager by just over $28,000 to become the highest paid city official.

The position typically pays between$210,828 – $253,152, according to the State Controller's Office.

The next highest paid municipal employee in Union City was City Manager Joan Malloy, with a total wage compensation of $293,267, followed by a police captain position at $287,368. Police department-related roles made up six of the city's 10 highest employee wages while the deputy city manager, the Economic and Community Development director and the city's Public Works director rounded out the top 10.

The highest paid city council members in the state belonged to the city of Los Angeles, with wages sitting above $200,000. The highest paid mayor in the state belonged to San Francisco, with a wage of $353,802, followed by Los Angeles. The ranking did not differentiate between full- and part-time employees.
