City Receives $240,000 Grant for Youth Violence Prevention Program
The two-year grant will fund three program staff members through Dec. 31, 2013.

From the City of Union City:
The City of Union City has just been notified that it has been selected to receive a 2011 CalGRIP grant from the California Emergency Management Agency in the amount of $241,541 for the City’s Youth Violence Prevention & Intervention Program (YVPIP).
This will be the City’s second CalGRIP grant; the first one was awarded in March 2009 and was instrumental in enabling the Youth & Family Services Division to leverage its Measure UU funding and expand program staffing.

The new two-year grant will support three existing YVPIP positions: the Case Manager, Youth Employment Coordinator, and Lead Outreach Worker, for the period from January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2013.
This funding could not have come at a better time for the YVPIP, as it not only stabilizes the YVPIP budget, but relieves pressure on the Measure UU budget, as well. When combined with the County Probation grant awarded last year, the new CalGRIP grant will bring total annual grant funding for the YVPIP to slightly more than $250,000 on an annual basis.

Staff has also been advised that, due to State reorganizations, the CalGRIP grant program will be transferred from State EMA oversight, to the Board of State and Community Corrections, effective July 1, 2012.
