Comcast Goes All Digital in Union City

If you only subscribe to Comcast’s basic service package and haven’t set up a new digital adapter, then you likely woke up this morning to a screen prompting you to order new equipment.

That’s because Comcast upgraded their service to an all-digital platform, a conversion that began in northern California in September and took effect in Union City, Hayward, San Leandro and Alameda this morning at 5 a.m.

According to Comcast spokesman Andrew Johnson, the conversion only affects those who subscribe to their basic digital starter package, which includes all local channels from about channels 2 through 30 in most systems.

“Customers who haven’t hooked up digital box to their TVs will lose or have lost those channels,” Johnson said.

Johnson added that it’s only a small subset of Union City customers who are impacted by the change. Only about 10 percent of Union City’s Comcast subscribers receive the basic service, Johnson said.

Many local customers have already prepared themselves for the conversion as the cable company has sent out several mailers to customers.

But in case it slipped your mind, all you have to do is order a new free digital converter box by going to www.comcast.com/digitalnow, calling 1-877-634-4434 or visiting the local service at 31055 Courthouse Dr. at Union Landing.

Customers can receive up to two digital adapters at no additional monthly service charge.
