Why Go: Find a variety of books at "prices too good to pass up," along with DVDs and CDs. All proceeds will be used to pay for the library's free community programs.

Where/When: McConaghy House, 18701 Hesperian Blvd., Hayward; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: This fun family day includes pony rides around the historic McConaghy House, Pin the Tail on the Horse, horse shoes, an opportunity to explore the Carriage House and more.
Price: $2 program fee per child, $3 tour fee for adults, FREE for Hayward Area Historical Society Members

Where/When: Garin Regional Park, 1320 Garin Ave., Hayward; Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
Why Go: This festival promises old-fashioned fun for the entire family. The event will feature music, dancing, crafts, games and, of course, lots of heritage apples and cool apple concotions. Read more about the event see photos from past events .

4. LAUREN'S RIDE FUNDRAISER DINNER
Where/When: Niles Veterans Hall, 37154 Second St., Fremont; Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Why Go: Help raise funds and support Lauren's Ride -- a 3,500-mile cycling journey to help a 22-year-old Newark woman purchase a wheelchair-accessible car. Lauren's brother, John, will be riding across the country for her. Saturday's dinner will include an Italian-style dinner and a silent auction.
Price: $20 per person (cash at the door), free for children 10 and under

Why Go: Join the Frisky Frolics as they take us back in time to Tin Pan Alley with snappy tunes.
