Oakland Men Arrested in String of Gold Jewelry Robberies

Two Oakland men were arrested in connection to a countywide armed robbery spree that targeted elderly Asian victims who wore gold jewelry, including shoppers at the Union City .
Daryl Dove, 27 and Matthew Howard, 32 were arrested earlier this month by the Fremont Police Department Robbery Unit on suspicion of participating in the series of crimes, which occurred in Fremont and surrounding cities in Southern Alameda County.
According to the Fremont Argus, Dove was arrested Dec. 17 in Fremont with Howard arrested two days later in Oakland. The two men are scheduled to appear in court Jan. 18 where they face charges of felony robbery and probation violations.

Fremont police Detective Michael Gebhardt told the newspaper that the four-month string of robberies began mid-August.

Police said the two men would target potential victims at busy shopping centers and follow them home, the majority of whom were older Asian or Indo-Americans wearing gold jewelry. Once the victims arrived at their homes, Dove and Howard would approach the victims’ cars, pull out a gun and demand their jewelry and purses.
Dove and Howard most frequently visited the Walmart at Union Landing to find potential victims, according to the Argus.
Altogether, the two suspects robbed about 20 victims in multiple cities from Oakland to Fremont, police said.
