Man Arrested After Running, Discarding Loaded Gun, Police Say

A 30-year-old man was arrested early Sunday after running from police and trying to get rid of a loaded revolver, a police spokesman said.

According to Sgt. Travis Souza of the Union City Police Department, officers responded to the area of 14th and F streets at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday after reports of a loud party.

When officers arrived, Paul Ramirez attempted to flee the area on foot, Souza said. While running away, Ramirez tossed a loaded gun over the fence of a residence; the gun went through a neighbor’s window, shattering the glass, according to Souza.

Ramirez was detained shortly after and arrested on suspicion of felony weapons charges, along with resisting arrest and vandalism, Souza said.

“It’s always good to get a gun off the street,” he said.

Ramirez is scheduled to be arraigned at the Fremont Hall of Justice on Tuesday at 2 p.m., according to online court records.
