Friday, Dec. 2
Armed suspect robs gas station, elderly woman

Early in the morning, an officer was flagged down in the area of Industrial Pkwy and Whipple Road in Hayward. The subject told the officer that a black male had just robbed the Union 76 station and an elderly woman in the area, according to the report. The officer broadcast the details and, while searching for the suspect, located the suspect near the America’s Best Value Inn in Hayward. The suspect ran into the hotel and then back out across Whipple Road and eventually across Industrial Parkway into the Motel 6 lot, the report said. The officer pursued the suspect and a perimeter was established. The Hayward Police Department and CHP responded to the location to assist and eventually Hayward Police took over the investigation as this occurred in their city. Fremont Police also responded with a K-9 to assist with the search. However, the suspect was not located.
Man arrested with 13 grams of meth

Officers investigated a family disturbance at a home on Edna Court. According to the report, the subject was yelling and throwing items in the residence. The elderly parents advised officers that the subject locked himself in the garage. An officer negotiated with the subject to exit the garage and detained him. Officers found the subject was in possession of 13.3 grams of methamphetamine and arrested him, the report said.
Saturday, Dec. 3
Armed robbery at 7-Eleven
Officers responded to a just-occurred armed robbery at the 7-Eleven convenience store located on Decoto Road near Perry Road. Arriving officers learned that the victim clerk was confronted by a lone suspect who pointed a handgun at him and demanded all the money from the cash register. The clerk complied and the suspect fled on foot across Decoto Road, the report said.
Suspected vandals arrested for graffiti, marijuana possession
Later on Saturday, officers were sent to the area of the Office Max store located at the Union Landing Shopping Center to investigate a report of graffiti being spray-painted on nearby buildings and a storage container. The reporting witness provided a good description of the suspects and their vehicle. Arriving officers spotted it as it was being driven through the shopping center parking lot and made an enforcement stop and detained the two occupants. The witness later positively identified the suspects as being responsible for the vandalism. In addition to the vandalism, a search of the suspect’s vehicle revealed 49 grams of marijuana. Both suspects were arrested.
Pedestrian struck by car on Smith and Dyer
Later on Saturday night, officers were sent to the intersection of Smith and Dyer streets to investigate a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. Through the course of the officer’s investigation, the officer learned that a distraught juvenile pedestrian ran into traffic without warning. The motorist struck the pedestrian and immediately stopped. The pedestrian was transported to a local trauma hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to the report.
Drunk driver overturns vehicle
Also on Saturday night, officers responded to the area of Whipple Road and Central Avenue to investigate an overturned vehicle accident. Arriving officers found a vehicle resting on its roof and the driver standing nearby with minor injuries. According to the report, the driver was intoxicated and arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol. As a precaution, the driver was taken to a local hospital for evaluation prior to incarceration.
Monday, Dec. 5
Officers respond to American Licorice strike
Officers responded to the American Licorice Company located on Whipple Road regarding a disturbance surrounding a labor strike at the company. According to the report, arriving officers found 75-100 people standing outside of the business peacefully holding signs and demonstrating. A complaint that the protesters were blocking the entrance/exit driveway was addressed with the union leadership. No additional issues arouse, the report said.
Tuesday, Dec. 6
Suspected home burglars arrested
Fremont police advised Union City police that they had had a recent residential burglary in their city and provided a vehicle description. An officer on routine patrol in the area of Alvarado Niles Road and I-880 saw the suspect vehicle. With the aid of additional officers, a high risk enforcement stop was made of the suspect vehicle due to the fact that Fremont police also advised that the suspects were seen with firearms. Four subjects were detained without incident. Fremont police responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
