Police Log: Homicides, Armed Robberies, Weapons Violations
Union City experienced its first and second homicides, both within three days; two convenience stores were robbed; and a Union city man was arrested after a gun incident at a San Jose nightclub—details in this week's crime log.

The following is a collection of reports prepared by the . The document contains only items of note. Dated May 20, the log contains incidents that occurred May 13-20. Reports have been lightly edited for Patch style.
Friday, May 13
Purse snatchers arrested

Two juveniles were arrested on suspicion of burglary after snatching a woman’s purse at Starbucks,1752 Decoto Rd., in the Safeway Shopping Center. Read the full story .
Drug arrest

Officers were sent to a home on Hanford Street after a Neighborhood Watch member reported possible drug sales. Officers found subjects milling about in front of a home. They contacted the subjects and developed information that allowed them to conduct a search. As a result of the search, officers found .5 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and three doses of Vicodin, according to the report. Two people were arrested on suspicion of possession of the contraband.
$5,000 bike theft
Officers investigated a residential burglary at a home on Novato Street. The stolen item in question was a $5,000 bicycle that was taken from the garage. The homeowner had an elaborate surveillance system that caught the suspect in the act on video. The officer was able to identify the suspect and conducted a search of a residence the suspect was staying at. Officers located the suspect and the stolen bike, along with another stolen bike, according to the report. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of burglary. Anther subject at the residence was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
DUI arrest
A drunk driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence after crashing into a parked car on F Street. According to the report, the driver passed out behind the wheel while driving and veered into a parked car. The driver was also found with 2.1 grams of cocaine in his possession, according to the report.
Saturday, May 14
Man shot and killed
A man was shot and killed on the 33600 block of Eight Street late Saturday night. Officers responded to a call of shots fired where they found 34-year-old Anthony Francisco “Cookie” Ramirez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. A fire department medical unit attempted to provide first aid but Ramirez succumbed to the injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. It was the city’s first homicide of 2011. Smith Convenience Store robbery
The Smith Convenience Store, 3834 Smith St., was robbed at gunpoint Saturday night. Officers responded to the just-occurred armed robbery where a clerk advised them that two people entered the store with a handgun. One held the clerk at gunpoint while the other jumped over the front counter and stole the money out of the cash register. The robbers then fled on foot across the street toward Old Alvarado Park, according to the report.
Sunday, May 15
Cabello School burglary
Three juveniles were arrested on suspicion of burglary. According to the report, officers responded to a burglar alarm at Cabello School, 4500 Cabello Dr. Arriving officers spotted three juveniles jumping interior fences and detained them as they attempted to flee, according to the report.Officers located discarded stolen school property along the escape route and found a classroom had been broken into.
Tuesday, May 17
Second homicide
A 49-year-old Union City man was shot and killed Tuesday night, less than a mile from where another fatal shooting occurred three days earlier. Officers responded to a call of a shooting on the 600 block of Whipple Road. Arriving officers found Ruben Gonzalez Partida, 49, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries. For the full story, click .
Domestic assault
A man was beaten with a baseball bat and had a glass vase smashed over his head by his sister and nephew, according to a police report. Officers responded to a home on San Andreas Drive to investigate a domestic disturbance Tuesday night. Arriving officers found that the victim had been struck in the head with a baseball bat and a glass vase. The victim was taken to a local hospital for additional treatment. Through the course of the investigation, officers learned that the victim lives with his sister and nephew. The victim and his nephew were involved in a heated argument that led to the nephew grabbing a baseball bat and confronting his uncle, police said. The nephew then struck his uncle about the head, shoulders and arms with the bat, while his mother (the victim’s sister) joined in the attack by breaking a glass vase over the victim’s head, according to the report. The nephew left in his vehicle and the sister remained on-scene until the police arrived. The sister was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The report was sent to the District Attorney’s office seeking a complaint of the same charge against the nephew.
Wednesday, May 18
iPad theft
A victim reported an iPad theft, advising officers that the onboard GPS showed it was at a home in Fremont. The investigating officer drove to the address and waited for Fremont detectives. While waiting, the resident of the address got into a vehicle and left. The officer stopped the vehicle, which lead to the arrest of two individuals on suspicion of possession of stolen property, among other crimes, according to the report. The two individuals arrested were linked to a cell phone and electronics media store in Union City, police said.
Armed robbery at 7-Eleven
A clerk at the 7-Eleven, 2609 Decoto Rd., was robbed at gunpoint. According to the report, two people armed with a handgun entered the store. One pointed the gun at the store clerk while the other took the clerk’s wallet and cash from the register. The suspects then fled on foot.
Thursday, May 19
Missing woman found
A 61-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s disease was reported missing. Officers responded and checked the area of Quarry Lakes and Isherwood, her last known location. Fremont Police Department also responded, along with East Bay Regional Parks police. There was no helicopter available and all searches were conducted on foot or in patrol vehicles. Sightings were reported all over the park and creek trails but officers were unable to locate her. Two hours later, a resident found the missing woman a short distance away in Union City and brought her to Quarry Lakes, where he flagged down an officer.
Man arrested after San Jose nightclub shooting
A Union City man was arrested after a reported shooting at a San Jose nightclub Thursday night. San Jose police advised UCPD that they had a disturbance at Fahrenheit nightclub in their city where a male brandished a firearm and fired one shot over the top of the crowd outside the club and into a building wall. The suspect’s vehicle license plate belonged to a resident on Pacific Grove Way. Officers went to the address, where the family identified the suspect vehicle as their son’s, stating that it was in his possession and that he was in San Jose, according to the report. Officers waited and kept surveillance on the home until the suspect arrived. Two suspects were in the vehicle and the male suspect spontaneously stated that the gun was under his seat and that he hoped he hadn’t hit anyone during the shooting, according to the report. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and other weapons violations. The information was sent to SJPD, who are following up with their own case.
