Police Log: Logan Student Found with 45 Ecstasy Pills; Three Arrested After Assaulting Bar Owner, Attacking Security Guard With Knives
Reports also include a robbery at Home Depot and a domestic stabbing.

The following is a collection of reports prepared by the Union City Police Department. The document contains only items of note that occurred Sept. 2 to 5. Reports have been lightly edited for Patch style.
Sunday, Sept. 2
Three arrested after assaulting Menconi’s Lounge owner, attacking security guard with knives

Early Sunday morning, officers responded to , located at 32611 Alvarado Blvd., to investigate a disturbance in which several subjects were brandishing knives.
Arriving officers found that three subjects were told to leave the bar after causing a disturbance inside. The owner and the three subjects argued as they walked outside into the parking lot. One of the subjects then punched the female owner. A security guard and another victim came to the owner’s aid and began to push and punch the suspects in retaliation for the assault. The suspects began slashing the two victims that came to aid the owner. A second security guard called the police and announced that the police were on their way and the suspects fled in a vehicle.

The two people who came to the owner’s aid sustained non-life threatening lacerations and were treated at the scene by Alameda County Fire and Paramedics Plus Ambulance service.
An officer conducting an area check located the vehicle occupied by two of the three suspects nearby. They were eventually identified as the people responsible and arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The third suspect was identified in a photo line-up.
Man stabbed by woman in domestic disturbance
At about 5 a.m., officers responded to a residence on the 4600 block of Granada Way to investigate another stabbing. Arriving officers found a man packing his belongings into a car near the residence. Officers confirmed that he was involved and learned that he had a laceration to his torso. Alameda County Fire and Paramedic Plus were called to treat his wounds. Inside the home, officers located a woman who was less than cooperative. Based on the evidence, officers obtained an emergency restraining order keeping the two subjects away from each other and the report was sent to the district attorney’s office for possible criminal charges.
Man arrested while driving around with open beer can
On Sunday night, an officer on routine patrol in the area of Mission Boulevard and Whipple Road saw a vehicle speeding and driving over the double yellow lines. The officer made an enforcement stop and contacted the driver. The driver and vehicle had the odor of freshly burned marijuana, and the officer saw an open can of beer next to the driver. The officer eventually arrested the driver on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and marijuana after he failed a series of field sobriety tests.
Drunk driver crashes into parked cars on Regents Boulevard
Later this night, officers responded to the 32000 block of Regents Boulevard to investigate a vehicle collision into several parked cars. Arriving officers found the driver intoxicated and suffering from a laceration to his leg as a result of the collision. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and taken to a local hospital for treatment prior to being transported to Jail.
Monday, Sept. 3
Home burglaries
On Monday between 2 and 9 p.m., an unknown suspect(s) burglarized a residence on the 34000 block of Aspen Loop. The suspect(s) made entry to the residence by breaking away surrounding glass on the front door.
Additionally, unknown suspect(s) burglarized a residence on the 5500 block of Alvelais Drive. The suspect(s) made entry through the rear sliding glass door.
Tuesday, Sept. 4
Logan student found with 45 ecstasy pills
At about 1 p.m., the school resource officer assigned to James Logan High School contacted a student who had an active warrant for his arrest. During a search of the student, the officer found him to be in possession of 45 ecstasy pills resulting in the student also being arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sales.
Drunken taxi driver crashes into tree, then backs into pole
Officers responded to the area of Lowry and Bridgepoint Place to investigate a single vehicle accident. Arriving officers found the driver of a taxi had collided into a tree, and then backed up his vehicle into a pole, causing damage to a utility box. Officers arrested the driver on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Wednesday, Sept. 5
Home Depot employees catch thief, the other slips away
At about 6:10 p.m., officers responded to the Home Depot store located at 30055 Industrial Parkway to investigate a robbery in which store employees detained one of two suspects. Arriving officers took custody of the one suspect and searched the area for the second, but did not locate him. Store employees told officers that two suspects attempted to exit the store without paying for merchandise, so the employees confronted the suspects. The suspects fought with the employees, which allowed one of them to escape. The suspect taken into custody was charged with robbery and transported to jail.
