Police Log: Shots Fired on Brenda Way; Drunk Woman Spits in Cop’s Face

Reports also include party crashers assaulting residents at a house party and a woman suffering head trauma during a domestic disturbance, among others.

The following is a collection of reports prepared by the Union City Police Department. The document contains only items of note. The log contains incidents that occurred from June 14 to 19. Reports have been lightly edited for Patch style.

Thursday, June 14

Man arrested for reckless driving after doing “doughnuts”

An officer on routine patrol in the area of Osprey and Quarry Lakes at about 11:27 p.m. observed a 1987 Ford Mustang “spinning doughnuts” in a reckless manner in the middle of the intersection. The officer made an enforcement stop and found that the driver also had an arrest warrant for similar activity. The officer arrested the driver on suspicion of reckless driving, as well as for the warrant, and impounded his vehicle for 30 days.

Drunken woman spits in cop’s face

At about 10:39 a.m., officers responded to the All About Pets retail store on Alvarado-Niles Road to investigate a report of a drunken woman creating a disturbance at the store. The first officer to arrive met with the subject outside of the store and she admitted to the officer that she had been drinking. The woman appeared to be agitated and claimed to have a knife in her pocket.

As the officer grabbed the subject’s arm, she spat in his face. The female began to flail her arms so the officer placed her on the ground. A second arriving officer assisted in handcuffing the subject and attempted to place her in the patrol car, but she began to use her feet and legs to brace against the patrol car in an effort to prevent being placed in the car. After a brief struggle, the officers were able to secure her in the car and transport her to Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of being drunk in public, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace.

Former employee causes stir at NY Pizza and Pasta

Later that night at around 7:33 p.m., officers responded to NY Pizza and Pasta located at 32106 Alvarado Blvd. to investigate a drunken ex-employee causing a disturbance. Arriving officers found the suspect nearby, arrested him on suspicion of public intoxication and requested the District Attorney file charges against him for battery against the owner.

Saturday, June 16

Parolee runs from officer, trips, falls, is found with 8 grams of meth

On Friday night at 9:42 p.m., an officer on routine patrol in the area of Ninth and F streets saw a known parolee at large. The subject reached for his waistband as though to simulate holding a weapon. He then began to run. The subject managed to trip and fell to the ground. He was captured, detained and identified. He was found to have a large amount of cash in his possession and 7.8 grams of methamphetamine. The subject was arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine and resisting arrest, along with the parolee arrest warrant.

Woman suffers head trauma after climbing hood of fiancée’s car during argument

Shortly after 1:02 a.m., a man and his fiancée were involved in a drunken argument in the area of Eight and C streets that eventually led to the man getting in his car to drive away. His fiancée jumped on the hood of the car to try to stop him. The man then quickly backed the car to encourage her to get off.

When this did not work, he drove forward then hit the brakes. This flung the woman off the hood, resulting in her hitting her head on the ground. She was incoherent and bleeding from her ears when officers arrived. She was transported to a local trauma hospital for treatment. The man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Party crashers assault guests, trash house

Later during the night shift at about 1:35 a.m. Sunday, between 10 and 20 unknown individuals crashed a party at a home located on the 5000 block of Anaheim Street. When the subjects were asked to leave, they began to batter several of the residents and partygoers. They also threw beer cans and bottles all over the inside of the house. The victims told police that they did not know the suspects, could not describe them, and did not want any further police involvement.

Sunday, June 17

Shots fired on Brenda Way

At about 10:39 p.m., officers responded to the 32000 block of Brenda Way to investigate a report of gunshots being heard. Arriving officers found bullet casings and damage to two parked vehicles. Officers searched for victims and suspects, but did not locate any.

Applebee’s employee confronted, attacked in parking lot

Later that night at 11:26 p.m., an employee at Applebee’s in Union Landing was confronted by a carload of female subjects who appeared to have been waiting for her to leave work. A fight between the employee and one of the car’s occupants ensued after a brief argument. Arriving officers detained all of the subjects involved and found that no one wished to cooperate with police. One of the subjects had an active arrest warrant and was taken into custody.

Monday, June 18

Man passed out in car in Burger King drive-thru arrested for drunken driving

At about 11:48 p.m., officers were sent to the Burger King restaurant located at 1801 Decoto Rd. to investigate a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. Arriving officers found the vehicle stopped in the exit area of the drive through driveway. A passenger exited the vehicle, walked around to the driver’s side and looked as if he was attempting to awaken the driver.

The officer contacted the subject and asked him if the driver had a medical issue or if he had been drinking. The subject told the officer that he had just been drinking. Due to the driver’s level of intoxication, the officer assisted the driver out of the vehicle and arrested him for driving while under the influence of alcohol. (Allowed under the vehicle code, if the driver has “control” of the vehicle, meaning keys in ignition, driver in driver’s seat, engine running, etc.)

Tuesday, June 19

Passengers of suspicious vehicle in Walmart parking lot found with meth and morphine

Later this night at 8:52 p.m., officers responded to the Walmart parking lot to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle was suspected to have been involved in an altercation the week before in the parking lot, possibly involving a firearm. Arriving officers found the described vehicle occupied by two subjects. As the officers approached the vehicle, they noticed what appeared to be a bullet hole in the passenger’s side of the vehicle. The occupants were detained and found to have 4.8 grams of methamphetamine, 14 doses of morphine and additional evidence indicating drug sales. Both subjects were arrested and transported to jail.
