Police Log: Shots Fired on Lewis Avenue; Traffic Stop Leads Officers to Stolen Assault Rifle, Drugs

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Union City between Jan. 24 and Jan. 29 as released by the Union City Police Department. Reports have been lightly edited for Patch style. 

THURSDAY, JAN. 24

Man arrested after admitting to selling weed at Kennedy Park

A man was arrested with six pounds of marijuana after admitting to selling weed out of his car at Kennedy Park. Two COPPS unit officers approached two men at the park at about 4:40 p.m. After questioning the men, one admitted to selling drugs. The officers searched his car and found more than six pounds of marijuana and more than $1,700 in cash.

Police swarm on parolee’s home

Officers surrounded a home on Seriana Place early Saturday morning at about 1:40 a.m. in an attempt to track down a wanted parolee. The suspect was wearing a GPS ankle monitor and was arrested when he exited his home.

SUNDAY, JAN. 27

Traffic stop leads officers to stolen weapons, drugs and drug paraphernalia

An officer stopped a car on G Street after it failed to yield to a stop sign at about 12:48 p.m. During the traffic stop, the officer found a loaded firearm — a .9mm Sig Sauer with a high-capacity magazine — tucked in the driver’s waistband. The gun was determined to be stolen out of Contra Costa County. A search of the car also found a dreadlock style wig, a black neoprene skeleton face mask, baggies of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Officers partnered wit the Major Crimes Task Force to get a warrant to search the suspect’s Hayward residence. There, they fund a stolen custom-built AR-15 rifle, a bulletproof vest and other drugs and drug paraphernalia.

MONDAY, JAN. 28

Strong-arm robbery suspects arrested

An officer stopped a speeding car on Decoto Road at around 10:48 p.m. While conducting the stop, BART police broadcasted that a strong-arm robbery had just occurred at the Union City BART station with suspect descriptions that matched the individuals in the car. BART police responded to the traffic stop with the victims of the robbery, who identified the two occupants. The two suspects were arrested in connection to the robbery.

TUESDAY, JAN. 29 

Shots fired on Lewis Avenue

Officers responded to reports of shots fired on Lewis Avenue at about 10:16 p.m. Officers found three bullet holes in a parked car but, luckily, no one was inside at the time of the incident. Officers searched the area but weren’t able to locate any suspects. Officers are still investigating the case.
