Police Log: Suspect Attempts Home Invasion Robbery at Grandparent's Home
This week's police log includes reports of an attempted home invasion robbery, parolees arrested with loaded firearms and an armed robbery at a gas station, among others.

The following is a collection of reports prepared by the . The document contains only items of note. Dated Dec. 1, the log contains incidents that occurred from Nov. 23 to 28. Reports have been lightly edited for Patch style.
Wednesday, Nov. 23
Suspect attempts home invasion robbery at grandparent’s home

Officers investigated a disturbance at a home on Hanford Court in which a gunshot was fired. Arriving officers secured the scene and determined that nobody was shot. Officers later determined that the gunshot was actually from a BB gun that resembled a real handgun.
Through their investigation, authorities learned that the victim was home when one of the suspects knocked on the door and asked for the victim’s grandson. The victim told the suspect that the grandson was not home and asked him to leave. The suspect came back a second time and tried to force his way into the home, but the victim pushed him out.

A short while later, the suspect, accompanied by the victim’s grandson, broke into the residence via the rear sliding glass door. The first suspect produced what appeared to be a handgun and shot at the victim, while the second suspect (the grandson) took the victim’s car keys. The suspects attempted to steal the victim’s car, but were unable to start it and fled on foot in an unknown direction.
On Friday, Nov. 25, an officer on routine patrol stopped two subjects in the area of Dyer Street and San Carlos Way. The officer determined that the two were responsible for the home invasion and recovered a BB gun. Both suspects were arrested.
Friday, Nov. 25
Drunk driver hits parked car, tries to enter the wrong home
On Friday night, police received numerous calls of an erratic driver on Whipple Road who reportedly collided into garbage cans and a stop sign. One of the callers provided a license plate number for the vehicle. While officers looked for the vehicle along Whipple Road and at the registered owner’s home on Oahu Circle, a caller a couple of blocks over from Oahu Circle called and reported that someone was trying to break into her home. Through their investigation, officers learned that the suspected drunk driver drove to the wrong home and crashed into a parked car. Officers arrested the suspect on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and hit-and-run.
Drunk driver arrested after hitting light pole
Also on Friday night, while officers were investigating the previous incident, police received another call of a traffic accident involving a drunk driver on Almaden Boulevard near Bainbridge Way. Arriving officers found that the intoxicated suspect was unable to negotiate a turn and crashed into a light pole. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Still later on Friday night, an officer at the aforementioned incident was blocking traffic on Almaden Boulevard with his patrol car and emergency lights activated while a tow truck was loading the vehicle from the accident. Another vehicle traveling at a high speed approached the collision site ran into the rear of the patrol car. The impact of the collision forced the patrol car onto the sidewalk, while the speeding vehicle continued and struck the previous vehicle that was partially loaded onto the tow truck.
The officer, who was seated in the patrol car at the time of the collision, was transported to a local hospital for treatment and released. The drunk driver of the speeding vehicle was also transported to a local hospital for treatment and arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
The tow truck operator managed to escape without any injuries.
Saturday, Nov. 26
Parolees arrested with loaded firearms
On Saturday night, an officer on routine patrol in the area of Industrial Parkway near Food Maxx saw a suspicious vehicle driving out of the rear alley area and onto Industrial Parkway. The officer saw a vehicle code violation and made an enforcement stop as the car turned back into the Food Maxx parking lot. Two of the five subjects in the vehicle were on searchable parole and probation. When the officer told the driver that he was going to search him and the vehicle, the driver admitted to possessing a handgun in his waistline.
Additional officers arrived and assisted in safely extracting all the occupants at gunpoint. The subjects were detained while a thorough search was completed. Two additional loaded handguns were recovered hidden in the vehicle, as well as .7 grams of methamphetamine. The handgun the driver possessed turned out to be a replica BB gun.
All of the subjects were arrested on suspicion of possession of loaded and concealed firearms and possession of a controlled substance. The lone female in the vehicle initially lied about her age, but officers later determined her to be a juvenile.
Sunday, Nov. 27
Armed robbery at 76
On Sunday night, officers responded to investigate an armed robbery that occurred 20 minutes prior at the 76 gas station at 31300 Alvarado-Niles Rd. The victim told investigating officers that a lone suspect brandished a handgun in his waistline and demanded money. The clerk complied and the suspect fled toward Union Landing.
Monday, Nov. 28
Police Foil Burglary at Marijuana Grow House, Seize 500 Plants
On Monday night, officers respond to the area of Dewitt Court to investigate a disturbance complaint. Arriving officers saw several subjects removing garbage bags filled with unknown objects from a home. Upon seeing the officers, the subjects abandoned the bags and fled, jumping neighboring fences. Believing a residential burglary had occurred, officers set up a perimeter and searched the area for the suspects.
One subject was located hiding in the backseat of a vehicle. He ignored police commands to exit the vehicle, even after being advised that a police K-9 would be deployed. Instead of surrendering, the subject decided to fight the police K-9 and attempted to choke the dog. Officers assisted the K-9 in subduing the subject and arrested him on suspicion of burglary, resisting arrest and attempting to harm a police K-9.
An additional suspect was located hiding in another yard. He surrendered and was arrested on suspicion of burglary and prowling.
A residence was located with a broken rear sliding door. A security check of the residence revealed that the interior of the residence had been converted into a marijuana grow and the abandoned garbage bags were found to be filled with marijuana. Approximately 500 marijuana plants were recovered.
