Police Searching for Armed Robbery Suspect

An armed man attempted to rob and shoot residents at the Greenhaven Apartments Monday afternoon. He is still at large.

Police are asking for help in locating an armed man who shot at a resident during an attempted jewelry robbery at the Greenhaven Apartments Monday afternoon.

No injuries were reported during the incident, police said.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 2:45 p.m. when the suspect tried to rob two women of their jewelry as they walked through the apartment complex parking lot, located at 31770 Alvarado Blvd.

The suspect pointed a handgun at one of the women as the other ran to get help from the victim’s husband, police said. As the husband ran to help, the suspect pointed the gun in his direction and fired at least one shot, missing him.

He is described as an African American male, approximately 33 years old, with his hair in braids.

Footage from surveillance cameras in the area captured an image of the suspect, in which he appears to be wearing a black jacket or sweatshirt and a black and purple vintage style snap-back baseball cap (see photos above).

Monday’s attempted robbery follows several similar incidents in the region where criminals have targeted victims wearing jewelry. Gold jewelry following an increase in the price of gold in August.

Police ask that residents be mindful of these crimes and limit the amount of jewelry they display when out in public.
