Public Hearing on Possible Sale of District Office, Former School Scheduled

The public hearing will be held on Oct. 1.

The community at large will have a chance to voice their thoughts on the possibility of the New Haven Unified School District selling two parcels next week.

A public hearing will be held Monday, and residents are invited to talk about the proposal to sell the district office and/or the former Cabello Elementary School campus, according to school officials.

New Haven Unified released a statement Tuesday noting that the nine-member committee formed to analyze whether the district should sell one or both properties will meet again today to study the issue.

Committee members, who were appointed by the New Haven school board on Sept. 18, is made up of the district’s residents, parents and teachers and business and city representatives.

Cabello Elementary School, located at 4500 Cabello St., was closed in 2007. If it’s determined that the district should sell its Educational Services Center, district offices would move into the former campus of Barnard-White Middle School.
